About the AMWU

Organisation type and coverage: a union of employees connected to the manufacturing, metals and food industries

Financial year: 1 October to 30 September

Date of registration: 8 November 1938, originally as The Amalgamated Engineering Union (Australian Section).

While the structure of the organisation incorporates a number of branches, divisions and regions, it only has 7 reporting units for the purpose of financial reporting, one in each state including the organisation itself.

The governing body of the organisation is vested in the National Conference, which consists of the National Council and Delegates elected from the divisions of the organisation.

The organisation’s structure also includes State Conferences, State Councils, District and Section Committees, and its elections are conducted by the AEC.
