The Fair Work (Registered Organisations) Act 2009 (the RO Act) requires all office holders whose duties relate to financial management to undertake approved training within 6 months of taking office.
The requirement includes office holders elected or appointed following casual vacancies. The training must cover each of the office holder’s financial duties, and be approved by the Registered Organisations Commissioner (the Commissioner).
Training packages approved by the Commissioner appear in the list below. Providers of previously approved training have been contacted by the Registered Organisations Commission (ROC) to review their training packages and submit to the Commissioner for approval. This web page will be updated with a list of training providers as training packages are approved.
Training materials review process
An organisation seeking to have training approved should send an outline of proposed training material to the Registered Organisations Commission (the ROC) at email@example.com.
When preparing training material, an organisation should have regard to the list of topics that it is expected that the training will cover. The ROC will review the material to make sure it covers the topics outlined in the Overview of expected training content (PDF 57.5KB), including that it contains an evaluation component.
The organisation will be advised of the outcome of the review and (if required) invited to make additions or alterations and submit a revised copy of the training material.
Once the final material is reviewed, it will be forwarded to the Commissioner for formal approval. A formal approval letter will be issued by the Commissioner and sent to the organisation.
Details of the training package and the name of the provider will be published on the ROC's website. Approved training material ranges in duration from a full day to a day and a half This appears to be the timeframe required in order to cover the range of topics appropriately.
